Spiced Apple & Cinnamon Oatmeal

Can we agree that as soon as September hits it’s time to dive into everything cinnamon spice?

As much as I love the summer sunshine and longer days, fall will always be my favourite season. I love the crisp air, cozy outfits, and am truly a sucker for all of the spiced up foods and drinks.

One breakfast that seems to be a huge hit in our household these days is oatmeal. And now that we are entering some cooler weather, we’ve swapped out berries for a spiced apple version.

I hope that you enjoy this recipe as much as we do!

Did you give this Spiced Apple & Cinnamon Oatmeal a try?

If so, let me know what you thought! I always love to get your feedback.

What you’ll need:

  • 1/2 cup oats, large flake

  • 1 cup water

  • 1 small/medium apple, shredded (any variety works but I prefer something tart like macintosh or granny smith)

  • 1 tsp cinnamon

  • 1 tsp maple syrup

  • 1 tbsp brown sugar

  • 1 tbsp milk (any type you like)

Instructions:

  1. Place the oats and water in a medium pot. Bring to a boil under medium-high heat. One boiling, turn down the heat and simmer stirring occasionally 5-7 minutes or just until the oats thicken and most of the water is absorbed.

  2. While the oats are cooking, shred the apple. In a bowl, combine the shredded apple, cinnamon, brown sugar, and maple syrup. Stir to combine.

  3. When oats are done, transfer them into a bowl. Top with apple mixture and a tbsp of milk.

  4. Enjoy!
